First Days

Welcome to my blog!

First, let me tell you about myself.
My name is Emily and I was born and raised in Massachusetts. After graduating high school, I decided to go down south to college at the best school in the country for International Business, the University of South Carolina. As part of my major, I have to get to study abroad, so I am currently attending the American Business School in Paris!

I am lucky enough to have one of my sorority sisters, Mary, as my roommate here in Paris. She is seriously one of the nicest, sweetest people you will ever meet and I know we are going to have a great time. After weeks of searching the internet for an apartment to rent, we finally found a 2 bedroom flat in the 18th arrondissement through Parisattitude.com. It is wicked cute and perfect for what we need: close to school and the metro with a separate bedroom for each of us. (After living in a sorority house for 2 semesters, we both wanted a room of our own).

My own room!

Right now we are both settling in to daily life in Paris. We arrived yesterday, January 20, a few days before orientation in order to get over jet lag and establish ourselves here. I used Parishuttle to get from the airport to the apartment and it worked out great, even though there was a delay because of a rare snowstorm(!). Yesterday we went to the Franprix down the street to get some groceries for dinner.

A carton of milk, a frozen quiche, a 3 pack of cider and a wedge of brie for only 8!

We don't yet know how to use the oven, and we have to light the stove burners with a lighter, so cooking is definitely a process. I'll let you know how it goes when/if we decide to try and cook the quiche.

We ended up making Annie's Mac and Cheese that I brought from home

We both slept until noon this morning (oops) and then went out and each got a pain au chocolat and a baguette at a patisserie down the street to eat for breakfast.

 So delicious.

We made coffee in our Moka Pot, which was interesting to say the least. This afternoon we went to the Monoprix, which is a bigger and fancier (read: more expensive) version of the Franprix, and got some more groceries.
We then got our Navigo Passes for the metro, which we used to travel to the 9th arrondissement. We were in search of a hair dryer and curling wand, which I thought we could get at the department store, Printemps. Wrong. Luckily there was also a Sephora there, which would definitely have one. Wrong again. We did get some coffee at the Starbucks there, and I am going to venture over to the Carrefour and/or Darty tomorrow where multiple people have said you can get both a hair dryer and curling wand. We'll see.

Traveling in the snow where they don't have plows is an adventure

Stay tuned for more posts on our friends Zach and Sallie's arrivals, ABSP orientation and our ongoing quest for hair tools.

Merci et a bientot!
